This measures the time from the browser event timestamp to this page’s event handler. It includes browser scheduling, and cannot measure total hardware, USB, Bluetooth or display latency. Charts and statistics retain the latest 300 samples.

01

How to use the Mac keyboard timing test

Focus the test area and press and release keys at a comfortable pace. Compare the average, 95th percentile and recent samples. Each fresh keydown adds the delay between its browser timestamp and the page’s event handler.

02

What browser event timing actually measures

JavaScript receives input after the keyboard, connection, operating system and browser have handled it. Event dispatch timing can reveal variation in this browser session, but the page has no independent timestamp for physical switch activation.

03

Compare keyboard timing estimates carefully

Keep the browser, workload, test key and connection consistent. Background work, timer precision, power settings and event coalescing can change results. True end-to-end latency testing needs an independent reference or specialist equipment.

More answers
Does this measure my keyboard’s actual input latency?+

No. It estimates the delay from a keyboard event’s browser timestamp to the page’s event handler. It cannot isolate the time from physically pressing a switch to a displayed response.

Can I compare Bluetooth and USB results?+

You can compare repeated browser sessions under similar conditions, but treat differences as observations rather than proof of hardware latency. The operating system and browser are part of the measurement.
