Holding a key does not add presses. Leaving this area or window cancels the run.

CPS is separate key presses divided by the test duration. OS auto-repeat and modifier keys are excluded. Clicking buttons never adds to your score. Browser shortcuts may intercept some combinations.

01

How to measure keyboard presses per second

Select the test duration, focus the test and repeatedly press and fully release your chosen key. Your CPS is the number of accepted keydown events divided by the measured round duration.

02

Why held-key autorepeat should not count as tapping

Holding a key produces software repeat events at a rate configured by your operating system. The test filters browser-marked repeats so the count better reflects separate taps. Unusual device or software behavior can still affect events.

03

Use a keyboard CPS test comfortably

Keep your wrist relaxed and stop if tapping becomes uncomfortable. Scores vary with technique, key travel and timing. CPS measures this tapping task, not general typing skill or hardware performance.

The calculation is similar, but this test counts keyboard events. It does not measure mouse clicks or compare the mechanics of the devices.
